UNB Saint John Survival Guide

Play Time

What’s the best bar in town?

  • O’Leary’s Pub
  • Ho-zone (oops, I mean Ozone).
  • Cougars Lounge.
  • Sebastian’s and Happinez wine bar (but these can be a bit pricey).
  • Col. Tucker’s (right on campus — you can stumble back to your dorm without going outside).
  • Support your local brewery — they’re here for a reason.
  • No matter where you go, if your friends are there it’s a good time.

Getting to and from the party.

  • Make sure you don’t drive when you shouldn’t be driving or get into a car with someone who’s been drinking.
  • A lot of people leave their cars at the university and sleep in the offices.
  • Let your friends share your bed.
  • Rotate designated drivers every outing.
  • Everybody chip in $10 for a cab.
  • Keep your cab money in a different pocket (or in your coat because of coat check).
  • You’re not going to walk from downtown to campus.

Tips for a safe night out drinking.

  • Drink with friends. Stick together. Make sure they know the plan.
  • Make sure you know where your friends are so they can help you.
  • You never leave a man behind.

What’s the worst that could happen?

  • End up in the hospital getting your stomach pumped.
  • Offending or being rude to someone you know.
  • It’s okay to let loose but don’t forget that you need to be a person again in the morning
  • You don’t want your friends have to take care of you. It’s embarrassing for them and for you.
  • Scars take time to heal — not the emotional ones, the ones from falling and breaking stuff.
